RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
“Helping those in search to get personally in touch with Christ and His church.”
- Charter, mandate, organization description RCIA is the post Vatican II restoration of an ancient process that invites adults who are not Catholic to discover Jesus Christ and be fully joined to the Catholic Church. This is a parish program directed and supported by the diocese of San Jose, open to those considering initiation into the Catholic Church. The program relies on the oversight of our pastor and the assistance and prayers of the entire parish community. Baptized Christians (Catholic or otherwise) who are not fully initiated into the church are also invited to participate.
- Key Activities Teaching adults the essentials of the Catholic faith with an opportunity for receiving all minor rites leading to the Sacraments of Initiation and full initiation into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. Guided by the USCCB Catholic Catechism for Adults with the use of the Symbolon program and other teaching aids;
RCIA includes 90-minute sessions on Tuesday nights from September through Pentecost. Also included is the dismissal Rite at most Sunday masses January through Easter and a day long retreat on Holy Saturday, along with other development opportunities.
