SFC’s Annual Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Drive
A heartfelt thank you to those who came to the gym yesterday to help with our Thanksgiving Food Drive!
Cars started lining up at 7:00 AM yesterday morning. 103 families received a turkey and food box with all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving dinner. Add to that, 27 boxes and turkeys that went out on Friday to a nearby high school and elementary school, we had a total of 130 boxes that were given out to the local community to make their Thanksgiving just a little bit brighter. We were short about 10 food boxes and turkeys and some people had to be turned away. To keep this from happening at the Christmas Food Drive, we need your help more than ever! See below for the list of items needed. The next time you’re at the grocery store, picking up an item or two from the list below can add up before we start the Christmas Food Drive on December 16th. We want to be able to feed everybody who comes to us on that day.
The distribution date for the Christmas Food Drive this year is Saturday, December 16th.
We will begin sorting and boxing food for distribution at 7:30AM in the gym. We will begin distributing the food boxes to our guests between 8:30AM / 9:00AM until 12:00 Noon. We will need volunteers from beginning to end. Our busiest time is from 7:30am to 10:00am, but we will also appreciate volunteers to help with cleaning up. Anyone is welcome to help! We have generations of families come to help on these important days where we are able to feed those in our local community and beyond. Information about volunteering will be posted on the SFC website.
We could not hold these events without your financial support. Although we receive many food donations, we also purchase a significant percentage of the food we distribute. Your financial support is crucial! Additionally, at the Christmas distribution, we hope to add gift cards in lieu of providing toys. Every cent donated goes to the Holiday Food Drives. There is no overhead and these events are operated solely by volunteers.
As well, SFC’s Holiday Food Drives have been a great success in part, due to the immense support and participation of SFC’s school staff, students and their families. This year, the school will be providing specific items in support of the Holiday Food Drive.
The following non-perishable food items can be donated by placing them in the boxes placed in the church vestibule. Needed at this time? Cereal, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Jams, Mashed Potatoes, Packaged Potatoes, Stuffing, Gravy.
At Christmas, each family will receive a box of food and a ham. If you are interested in donating a ham, we appreciate you donating the day of the food distribution due to limited storage. If you wish to donate a ham in advance, please feel free to contact me to make arrangements. My phone number and email are below. Any food items left over after the Christmas distribution, will go to the SFC Food Pantry for their weekly food distributions.
On behalf of Steve Crooks and myself, we wish to thank you in advance for the continued generous support the parishioners of St. Frances Cabrini have always given to this event.
