Becoming Catholic

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA/RCIC)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process of education and spiritual formation. The Saint Frances Cabrini Parish RCIA team welcomes those inquiring into the Catholic Christian faith as well as those adults who desire to receive the Sacraments of initiation. Christian Initiation is a beautiful process that merges the work already begun in you with the life of the Church. The sessions include an informal inquiry period and are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Parish Center living room beginning in the fall. Please contact Nicolette Thomas at 408-621-5971 to sign up or gain more information.

RCIA SPONSORS NEEDED – St. Augustine referred to the Church as a community of “Christians begetting Christians.” In the early days, the Church was dependent on the witness of every member. Welcoming new Catholics was not only the responsibility of the clergy, but belonged with the entire community of the faithful. Today the RCIA gives each person in our parish the opportunity to share the gift of his/her faith with someone who is seeking to know God through our Church. Please consider sharing your Time, Talent and experience of God’s love by becoming a sponsor. Sponsors are needed for candidates and catechumens in preparation for the Easter Vigil. Please Call Nadine at 356-6429 for further information.

What is the role of the volunteer sponsor in RCIA? Sponsors accompany candidates and catechumens through the last three phases of the RCIA process. Sponsors need to be faithful Catholics who are fully initiated (Baptized, Confirmed, and Eucharist) and at least 16 years of age.

Please contact the St. Frances Cabrini Parish Office at 408-879-1122 or email if:

  • You are baptized in the Catholic Church and seeking confirmation as an adult.
  • You are considering or desiring to become Catholic and are baptized in another Christian church or are not baptized but you are 7 years of age or older.
